Seems every time there’s a preventable boating tragedy a politician propose a new law that will shift the blame away from boaters having to be responsible and use some common sense when on the water, and magically tragedy will never happen again.
Sorry folks but the world doesn’t work this way, and the law of unintended consequences being what it is, more laws often do more harm than good.
There will always be mishaps, but the best way to truly reduce the number of preventable ones is to practice safe boating on the water. Practice it always, not just when it’s convenient, and not just when someone is watching.
In the end, we are largely responsible for our own safety, and no amount of laws will absolve us from this. That’s just the way it is.
Enjoy some of the spring on the water and be safe.
