50 Best Yachting Towns

Ran into this photo gallery on the 50 Best Yachting Towns on the Yachting Magazine website. There aren’t 50 towns pictured yet, but I expect that to change. I think this is a great idea, and am looking forward to seeing more images.

Queen Mary

Here’s a little nautical history…. The Queen Mary’s maiden voyage was on May 27, 1936. Happy 75th! She served as a military vessel from March 1940 – September 1946. She now calls Long Beach California her home.

Memories

Run up the Colours

Today is National Maritime Day, a day we honor the United States Merchant Marine. These mariners have dedicated themselves to protecting our freedoms, and have helped to promote commerce, both in times of peace and war. A heartfelt thank you goes out to these folks.

Crow’s Nest

Crows were kept on ships as an aid to navigation, and were kept high on a mast. Hence the origin of the term “Crow’s Nest”.

Life Jackets

The majority of boating accident drownings are the result of people not wearing life jackets. Be safe, assign and fit your vessel crew with life jackets. Put them on before heading out to sea.
