Shoaling
Some folks have asked about shoaling and why is it an issue. Shoaling is the depositing of sand along the ocean floor, making the area where this happens more shallow. This ca be a real problem at the entrance to harbors. Boats with larger drafts can get stuck if waters become too shallow, and this is a major safety and navigation issue. The best way to resolve shoaling at the mouth of a harbor is to dredge. We hope this helps you to visualize the issue.
