Coast Guard says ‘missing swimmer’ was actually a balloon

Marine units from the Milford and West Haven police, the Milford Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard searched for about six hours Sunday evening for a reported missing swimmer in a pink bathing cap. Lifeguards at the Dawson Avenue beach in West Haven reported the swimmer in distress Sunday afternoon, when they noticed what they thought was a woman’s pink bathing cap bobbing up and down about 800 feet from shore, officials said.
