The Coast Guard responded to a distress call off the coast of New Jersey this week. It was reported that a yacht exploded and had sank and that the passengers were adrift, but after hours of searching, it was concluded that was call was a hoax.
This isn’t a funny situation. The lives of others are put at risk, and valuable time, money, and resources are wasted. This hoax could have gotten someone killed.
