There are a lot of nautical terms and phrases that have worked their way into popular language. Given the long relationship between humanity and the sea this is understandable. One phrase that we like here at Harbor News is above board, meaning in plain view, or not hiding anything, stemming from an item being on a ship’s deck. Oh, how much simpler with world could be if we all were just a bit more above board with each other.
