Here’s some nautical trivia: For women stowaways, childbirth at sea traditionally happened between cannons on the gun deck, and the child was recorded in the ship’s log as a son of a gun.
Here’s a bit of nautical trivia for you out there. The oldest lighthouse in the U.S. is also the only remaining manned one. It’s know as Boston Light and will celebrate 300 years of existence nest year.
The USS Oriskany became an artificial reef off the coast of Florida in 2004. Its nickname is the Great Carrier Reef and it’s become one of the top diving destinations in the world. Just a fun little fact we thought we’d share with our readers.

Here’s a little nautical history…. The Queen Mary’s maiden voyage was on May 27, 1936. Happy 75th! She served as a military vessel from March 1940 – September 1946. She now calls Long Beach California her home.
Crows were kept on ships as an aid to navigation, and were kept high on a mast. Hence the origin of the term “Crow’s Nest”.
Yachting became an Olympic event at the 1896 Games in Greece.
