California just went through the first of a series of winter storms, which showed us how woefully prepared the state is for emergencies. It’s up to all of us to prepare for these things, so our suggestion is to do just that. Don’t expect an incompetent government to handle things that we can handle better ourselves. Prepare and teach by example.

Coast Guard searching for missing scuba diver off Catalina

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard says it is searching for a missing scuba diver off Catalina Island. The Coast Guard said in a statement that it received a report from a 48-foot boat called the Sundiver Express that the female diver went missing at about noon Tuesday near Isthmus Cove. A Coast Guard patrol boat, cutter and helicopter searched for the woman along with a helicopter and divers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
